The original Linlithgow Angling Club had been established in 1956. While the club did not have any waters of its own, many “all nighters” were fished throughout the season to venues such as Lochs Awe, Earn, Rannoch, Laidon, Tay and Ba.
A group of professionals including doctors and educationalists set up the present club in 1974, membership originally being by invitation only. This resulted in the club’s membership rising to only twenty four after ten years. With membership eventually being opened to all fair anglers, the current membership is over ninety.

The Federation has lost the rights to the estuarial stretch of the left hand bank of the Avon at Polmont Sewage Works. However, Federation and Club members can still fish the right hand bank.
Please respect the new Beat limit notice on the river bank adjacent to the outflow from the sewage works, which indicates the commencement of the private stretch".

The view upstream from the bridge at Kinneil Mill showed just how much water was coming down the river after prolonged heavy rain on 24th and 25th January. The photo was taken at about 4.15 on the afternoon of the 25th. It’s possible that the river rose even higher later in the evening as there was still a bit of rain falling. It will be interesting to see what changes this has made to the pools on the river. (Click on the image for full Photo)

I have contacted Kenny Galt to ask his advice on how we should approach our kick sampling in the light of the amazing concentration of invertebrates in evidence on opening day.
It would be better to have an effective approach to documenting our findings and I'm sure Kenny has experience of this very desireable problem!
I'll keep you all posted.
Meanwhile, if anyone comes across any turkey basters and large white photographic trays and compartment trays on eBay, buy them!!!
